ENDURO Lacquer, Flat, Gallon
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CAN I THIN LACQUER? Yes, a small amount of water or GF Extender will thin product. Reduce only by 5 % increments, it is best to use the correct recommended spray tip size instead. Spray tip sizes recommended: Compressed Air .040, HVLP .043-.051, Airless .009-.013. Air caps should be medium size.
CAN I BRUSH ON LACQUER? No, it is a spray on product only. You could pad on a small areas such as molding frames, but larger areas would be hard to level. Use Extender to help wet out when brushing on 15-20%. If you need a brush on product, use GF High Performance.
IS IT RECOMMENDED TO USE LACQUER OVER ANY OTHER GF TOPCOATS? Although you can apply Lacquer over other Enduro items (such as Clear Poly, High Performance, Pre-Cat, or Sanding Sealer) it is not recommended. Most of these products are more heavy duty than the Lacquer. Do not use over Enduro-Var, the two are not compatible.
WHAT GF STAINS CAN I USE THE LACQUER OVER? GF Water Base: wood stains, dye, RTM, glazes, and Milk Paints. GF Oil Base: liquid or gel stains (as long as they have been dry 24-48 hours).
DO I NEED TO STRAIN BEFORE SPRAYING? Yes, it is recommended to strain product through a fine mesh prior to spraying.
HOW THICK DO YOU RECOMMEND SPRAYING THE CLEAR POLY? 3-5 mil thickness and spray medium wet films. Heavy wet films will take longer to cure and dry down.
CAN I USE LACQUER OVER OTHER UNKNOWN FINISHES? Yes, but clean all areas first with a 50% denatured alcohol and 50% water mixture (scuff with a Scotch Brite pad). Let dry, then sand with a 3M (superfine) soft backed sanding sponge. Also, when going over unknown items always test a small area to make sure product is adhering well.
WILL ENDURO LACQUER ADD ANY COLOR IF I SPRAY IT OVER THE GF WHITE POLY? It will add minimum color. Do a test to check the difference, there will be very little color change. This is our most water white topcoat.
CAN LACQUER BE USED FOR TINTING OR TONING? For tinting we recommend GF Enduro Poly. Poly has higher solids and works better for tinting. Poly is available in white or clear and can be tinted any color as a pigmented topcoat. For Toning the Lacquer, or Poly, use GF Dye Stain, Wood Stain, RTM Stain, or Trans Tints. Add 5%-10% GF Dye to tint. Apply 2 coats half strength vs. 1 heavy tinted topcoat. The color will look more even with less chance of overlaps and runs with a diluted tint.
HOW MANY COATS ARE RECOMMENDED? Depending on use, 3 coats minimum. Enduro Poly or Conversion Varnish is recommended for high moisture or heavy wear items.
HOW LONG DOES THE LACQUER TAKE TO CURE? Cure time for all General Finishes products is about 14 days under ideal conditions (70 and 70% humidity). However, this may vary slightly with humidity & temperature. Good ventilation, air movement and higher temperatures will accelerate dry time.
ARE GF PRODUCT COMPATIBLE WITH OTHER BRANDS? A good rule of thumb is Dont mix brands. It might work, it might not. We can't troubleshoot results if you use another manufacturer's products with ours.
